Sciascinoso is a red grape native to Campania in southern Italy, where it is also known as Olivella. It is a traditional blending partner for Piedirosso and Aglianico and contributes to red Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio. Plantings have declined sharply, and it is now something of a rarity.
Flavors & Aromas
Bright red and black berries, sour cherry, and violet, with a fresh herbal edge and little oak influence.
Winemaking & Aging
Deeply colored with moderate tannins and lively acidity, ripening late — roughly 30–35 days after Chasselas. Made for early drinking; most examples are at their best within a year or two of the vintage. Used chiefly to add color and freshness to Campanian blends.
