Baroque is a white grape variety from the Landes department of southwest France, where it is grown almost exclusively in the Tursan appellation. Nearly lost after phylloxera, it survives as a regional specialty producing full-bodied, characterful dry whites with notable weight and alcohol.
Flavors & Aromas
Nuts and dried stone fruit, pear, quince, and white flowers, with a distinctive smoky, waxy note. Some examples show an aromatic lift reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc.
Winemaking & Aging
Produces full-bodied dry whites with moderate acidity and relatively high alcohol. Handles a light oak regime well and gains texture with a year or two in bottle, though most is drunk within 3–5 years. Suited to the sandy, iron-rich soils of Tursan.
