Auxerrois Blanc

Alsace, France

Auxerrois Blanc is a white grape of Alsatian origin, a natural cross of Pinot and Gouais Blanc, making it a full sibling of Chardonnay. It is regularly confused with Pinot Blanc in Alsace — the two are often blended or co-fermented and sometimes sold under the same label. Auxerrois gives rounder, lower-acid wines than Pinot Blanc, with a more pronounced spice and nutty character. Also planted in Luxembourg, Baden, and British Columbia.

Flavors & Aromas

Winemaking & Aging

Medium-bodied with bright acidity and moderate alcohol content. Auxerrois Blanc is an early-ripening variety that produces wines suitable for drinking young, though quality examples can age gracefully for 3-5 years. It is often blended with other Alsatian varieties and performs well in both dry and off-dry styles.
