Albariño is a white wine grape native to the Rías Baixas region of Galicia in northwestern Spain. It has become one of Spain's most celebrated white varieties, known for producing crisp, mineral-driven wines with distinctive coastal character. Across the border in Portugal's Minho the same grape is called Alvarinho, where it is one of the two leading white varieties of Vinho Verde and is most closely associated with the Monção e Melgaço subregion.
Flavors & Aromas
Citrus (lemon, lime, grapefruit), green apple, stone fruit (peach, apricot), white flowers, sea salt, and mineral notes with herbaceous undertones
Winemaking & Aging
High acidity and alcohol content (typically 12-14%), with excellent aging potential of 3-5 years in quality examples. The grape thrives in cool maritime climates and produces wines with good structure and complexity. Best enjoyed young to capture its vibrant freshness, though premium bottlings can develop additional depth with bottle age.
